Our limb loss rehabilitation program has been accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities as an inpatient specialty program for amputation rehabilitation.
We can help you adjust to life after amputation and achieve your full potential. Our experts work closely with you, your family, and caregivers throughout the entire rehabilitation process. Depending on your needs, your team may include specialists in physical medicine and rehabilitation, physical and occupational therapy, speech–language pathology, psychology, social work, and vocational rehabilitation.
We help you come to terms with life after limb loss, find the prosthetic that best fits your lifestyle, and help you to master its use.
Your inpatient and outpatient care is supervised by a rehabilitation physician, known as a physiatrist. Dr. Jeffrey M. Cohen, is the primary physician for our limb loss program. He is joined by Dr. Amit K. Bansal and Dr. Jeffrey S. Fine.
Inpatient Limb Loss Rehabilitation
While in the hospital, you receive care through our integrated inpatient rehabilitation program. Working with you to understand your needs and goals for recovery, our team develops a plan to help you recover your maximum level of functioning after amputation, both quickly and safely.
Outpatient Limb Loss Rehabilitation
After being discharged from the hospital, our outpatient team, which includes physical and occupational therapists, speech–language pathologists, psychologists, vocational counselors, nurses, physiatrists, and social workers, can help you adjust to life with a prosthetic at home, work, school, and in recreational settings. Our therapists work with you to improve your strength and coordination, and to increase your activity levels while managing pain after limb loss.

Prosthetic Training Programs
Adapting to life with a prosthetic requires the expert guidance that we provide at Rusk Rehabilitation. We help control limb swelling, called edema, teach techniques to desensitize the skin to make wearing the prosthesis more comfortable, help with posture, improve range of motion, conduct a visual and tactile skin assessment, provide care necessary to aid healing and recovery of the skin, and provide pressure relief.
You also learn how to prevent falls, improve coordination, and build endurance. Our goal is to help you adjust to your prosthetic and return to the typical activities of your daily life.
We also offer support groups for people with limb loss that can help you during the rehabilitation process.
