Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center Leadership

The Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center leadership team is dedicated to providing comprehensive, compassionate care.

    • David P. Hudesman, MD, Inflammatory Bowel Disease

      Center Director | Inflammatory Bowel Disease

      Dr. Hudesman specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, and care of people who have Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. He is also highly trained in endoscopic procedures, such as colonoscopy, chromoendoscopy, and upper endoscopy. Dr. Hudesman’s research efforts are focused on patient outcomes, disease monitoring, and clinical trials for the treatment of IBD. As co-director, Dr. Hudesman oversees the services and coordination of medical care at the center, with the goal of partnering with each patient to provide individualized, state-of-the-art, and seamless multidisciplinary care.

    In addition to Dr. Hudesman, our leadership team in New York City includes the following experts.

    • Shannon Chang, MD, Inflammatory Bowel Disease

      Director, Clinical Operations | Inflammatory Bowel Disease

      Dr. Chang specializes in the diagnosis of IBD and the treatment and care of people with IBD. She works closely with ºÙºÙÊÓƵ surgeons to provide inpatient and postoperative care to people who have had J-pouch procedures. Dr. Chang performs endoscopy, colonoscopy, chromoendoscopy, and endoscopic dilations. Her research focuses on postoperative care of people with IBD, new tools and techniques for medical imaging, and care outcomes. Working closely with the doctors, nurses, and medical care staff at the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center, Dr. Chang oversees coordination of medical services and patient care.

    • Jordan E. Axelrad, MD, MPH, Inflammatory Bowel Disease

      Director, Clinical and Translational Research | Inflammatory Bowel Disease

      Dr. Axelrad specializes in caring for people with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, especially those for whom the condition is complex or advanced. As someone who lives with Crohn’s disease, he knows personally how the condition affects his patients. Through his leadership of our , Dr. Axelrad focuses on environmental factors in the onset and flare of IBD, and in malignant and infectious complications of IBD. He leads multiple international research collaborations and is funded by the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation and the National Institutes of Health.

    • Lisa Malter

      Lisa B Malter, MD

      Director, Education

      specializes in the diagnosis of IBD and the treatment and care of people with IBD, including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. In addition to overseeing the Advanced Fellowship in Inflammatory Bowel Disease offered by ºÙºÙÊÓƵ’s , Dr. Malter leads the center’s educational efforts, which include free health seminars for patients and the public.

    • Seymour Katz, MD, Gastroenterology, Inflammatory Bowel Disease

      Director, Outreach Programs | Gastroenterology, Inflammatory Bowel Disease

      Dr. Katz, who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of IBD, is based on Long Island at our Nassau County location, where he cares for people with complex Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. He and his team also offer numerous clinical trials, designed to make promising new investigational treatment options available to the patients who need them.
