Donating Your Eggs
The ºÙºÙÊÓƵ Fertility Center is actively recruiting women 21 to 30 years old of all ethnicities to serve as egg donors for people who are unable to achieve pregnancy using their own eggs.
To be considered as a donor, you must fill out our that includes detailed medical information about you and your immediate family. If you pass our initial online application process, you are asked to visit our office and go through blood screening, psychological testing, and medical exams. The complete screening process may take up to four visits.
If you are approved, you participate in a medical process very similar to in vitro fertilization (IVF). You receive hormone injections to stimulate your ovaries to produce multiple eggs, instead of the one egg usually produced during a menstrual cycle.
Using ultrasound and blood tests, we monitor you regularly to determine when your eggs have matured enough to be collected. When ready, the eggs are removed from your body during a 10- to 20-minute procedure. You receive sedation while a physician uses a special needle to retrieve the eggs from the ovaries. We require that someone accompany you after the procedure and escort you home, and we recommend that you rest for the remainder of the day.
Egg donation does carry a risk of side effects and complications that may include breast tenderness, fluid retention, bloating, moodiness, and tenderness in the ovaries. In rare situations, a donor may experience ovarian cysts, blood clots, ruptured cysts, twisted ovaries, or hyperstimulation, in which the ovaries become enlarged and fluid may leak into the abdomen. The details of the procedure, including the risks and benefits, are discussed during your medical evaluation.
Women who successfully donate eggs are entitled to $12,000 as compensation for their time and effort. The Fertility Center provides you with a 1099 tax form for the payment amount, as you are required to report the income to the Internal Revenue Service.
