Research Summary
The evolution of surgical treatment for upper airway obstruction caused by tonsil hypertrophy in children has changed dramatically over the past 15 years. The role of intracapsular tonsillectomy, first proposed in 2000, has been studied by our group and we have been involved in the progress and validation of this procedure. First the safety of intracapsular tonsillectomy was documented and then the efficacy and indications followed by the cost effectiveness have all been reported and published.
The care of chronic sinusitis and nasal obstruction in patients with Cystic Fibrosis has evolved with the advancement of surgical techniques of endoscopic sinus surgery and image guidance. The results of surgical intervention in these patients has been reported and published documenting prolongation of improvement after surgery and the difference between patients with and without nasal polyps.
