Pediatric Celiac Disease & Gluten-Related Disorders Program

Experts in the Pediatric Celiac Disease and Gluten-Related Disorders Program, part of Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at ºÙºÙÊÓƵ, strive to improve the wellbeing of patients with celiac disease and other gluten-related conditions.

As part of the Pediatric Gastroenterology Program, we offer medical and nutritional management, as well as psychosocial support for the entire family. The emphasis is on close follow-up care for your child, including monitoring celiac-specific antibodies, vitamin and mineral levels, and bone health.

We understand that your entire family needs to be involved if treatment is to be successful. Your family and child can meet with a registered dietitian to learn how to grocery shop, plan meals, and prepare gluten-free food.

With time, patience, creativity, and assistance from the healthcare team, your family will find realistic options for delicious substitutes. You may also discover that many of the foods you already eat are gluten free.

To help your child and family better cope with symptoms and treatment, our licensed social workers provide supportive counseling to aid you in adjusting to your child’s diagnosis and offer your child strategies for dealing with social events, such as sleepovers and meals outside the home. They also offer care coordination with the medical team, crisis intervention, age-appropriate support groups, and more.
