Egg Freezing at ºÙºÙÊÓƵ Reproductive Specialists of New York
At ºÙºÙÊÓƵ Reproductive Specialists of New York, we help women, men, and couples preserve their fertility. This can be important if you want to delay parenthood or are receiving medical treatments such as chemotherapy that could lead to infertility.
Our doctors at Reproductive Specialists of New York are leaders in the field of egg freezing, which allows women to harvest eggs and save them for future use. We also offer embryo freezing and sperm freezing, also called cryopreservation.
The preservation process begins with a fertility evaluation that includes ovarian reserve fertility testing, also known as an egg check test. Based on the test results, your doctor might recommend freezing your eggs or sperm or using them to create embryos, which are then frozen and can be used at a future date to try to achieve pregnancy. A consultation with one of our board-certified reproductive endocrinologists is recommended to discuss pregnancy rates with frozen eggs and embryos.
Egg Freezing
Advances in reproductive technology have made it possible for women to freeze their eggs for future use. Just as in an in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedure, you receive hormones to stimulate the ovaries to produce multiple eggs. When the eggs are ready to be retrieved, your doctor performs a procedure to remove eggs from the follicles in your ovaries. The eggs are then frozen. They remain stored until you are ready to conceive, at which point one or multiple eggs are thawed, combined with sperm for fertilization, and implanted into the uterus during an embryo transfer. Â
Embryo Freezing
In embryo freezing, eggs are retrieved and taken to our embryology laboratory where they are combined with sperm from either a male partner or donor through IVF or intracytoplasmic insemination. After growing for five to six days in the laboratory, the embryos are frozen. When you are ready to conceive, one or more embryos are thawed and implanted into the uterus in an embryo transfer. Â
Sperm Freezing
Men who have a medical condition such as cancer, are taking medications that can affect fertility, or are preparing for military deployment might consider sperm freezing. The sperm is collected and frozen until it is needed.
