Preparing for Outpatient Orthopedic Surgery
After your surgery is scheduled at the ºÙºÙÊÓƵ Outpatient Surgery Center, you may be wondering how to prepare. Here is what to expect before and after your procedure.
Before Your Surgery
Talk with your surgeon’s office to schedule any necessary preadmission testing.Ìý
Two to three days before your surgery, expect a phone call from one of our nurses. This is a good time to ask any questions you may have about your surgery.Ìý
The day before your procedure, please call us between 1:00PM and 4:00PM to confirm the time of your surgery.Ìý
Before you arrive, please arrange to have someone you trust take you home after surgery, and plan to have someone there to care for you during the first 24 hours of your recovery.Ìý
The Day of Your Surgery
Please arrive approximately one hour before your scheduled surgery time. Our registration staff greets you and helps you fill out any missing paperwork.Ìý
A nurse brings you back to your private dressing room and waiting area where you and your family meet with your surgeon and anesthesiologist. This is a good time to ask any remaining questions about the procedure.Ìý
Before surgery, your belongings are placed in a secure locker. Your nurse takes you to the operating room where your surgical team is waiting.Ìý
After Your Surgery
After surgery, you are taken to the recovery unit where skilled nurses and anesthesiologists monitor your progress. When you are ready, we discharge you from the recovery unit and you may go home.
Within 24 hours, one of our nurses calls you to make sure your recovery at home is going well and to answer any questions you may have.Ìý
Insurance and Billing
You receive three separate bills: one from the Outpatient Surgery Center, one from your surgeon, and one from your anesthesiologist. You may receive a fourth bill from pathology if any tests were done during your procedure.
Each bill shows payments that you or your insurance company have made, and whether you owe an additional balance (this is based on your insurance plan).Ìý
Your insurance company sends you a form called an Explanation of Benefits, often sending a new one each time information about your bill is updated. Save these forms. Make sure you understand what your insurance plan does and does not pay for. You are responsible for costs not paid for by your insurance provider.Ìý
You can pay your bill with cash or a personal check, and we accept most credit cards.
