Culturally Sensitive Care at ٺƵ Hospital—Brooklyn
At ٺƵ Hospital—Brooklyn, we strive to ensure that everyone’s healthcare needs are met, regardless of the language spoken, cultural or religious beliefs, or ethnic heritage.
Interpretation and Translation Services
Many of our doctors, nurses, social workers, and support staff are bilingual and speak Arabic, Chinese, Russian, and Spanish. On-site interpretation services are provided by our certified medical interpreters. We also provide access to MARTTI, a 24-hour video and audio translation service that connects you with interpreters in more than 200 languages.
Translated medical forms and documents are also available in Arabic, Chinese, Russian, and Spanish. Other translations are available upon request.
During the Hospital Stay
While receiving treatment in the hospital, modesty gowns are available upon request. Patients may also request a room in our specially decorated and designed Chinese inpatient unit. For patient meals, we provide Chinese, halal, and glatt kosher selections upon request. During the holy month of Ramadan, we can adjust meal schedules for people of the Muslim faith. Our Bikur Cholim Yad Yaakov Room is stocked with kosher snacks available to patients, families, and their guests.
We strive to provide equitable care for members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, or questioning (LGBTQ+) community and their families.
Religious Support
We provide spiritual, religious, and chaplaincy services and have a chapel for people of all faiths, a masjid for those who practice Islam, and a prayer room for those of the Jewish faith. During Shabbos, we have a specially designated elevator, provide provisions, and can offer separate overnight accommodations for men and women who are visiting a family member in the hospital. We also have an imam on-call upon request.
