Welcome to the

Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

Our experts care for children who have serious medical conditions, from infancy through young adulthood.

In the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), part of Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at ºÙºÙÊÓƵ, we specialize in providing care for children with serious health problems. Your child may require care in the PICU for any condition that seriously affects a major organ, including the brain, lungs, heart, kidneys, or liver. The serious medical conditions treated here include brain or spinal cord conditions, epilepsy, lung conditions, blood disorders, cancerous conditions, heart problems, infectious diseases, endocrine disorders, and bone or joint conditions.

Our pediatric critical care team is prepared to meet your child’s specialized needs with the most advanced technology. We offer several types of mechanical ventilation strategies for children who have trouble breathing on their own, and we have a team of pediatric specialists who are trained in extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) therapy. ECMO therapy helps circulate blood in children who have severe heart or lung failure.
