About Me
As a child, I had a huge fear of going to the doctor. I did not know what to expect—and neither did my parents, since they did not know English. Eventually, though, my anxiousness turned to curiosity. Biology class gave me a glimpse into medicine, and I found it fascinating.
Today, I am triple board-certified in internal medicine, cardiology, and interventional cardiology.
As an interventional cardiologist, I guide thin, flexible tubes called catheters through arteries and veins to diagnose and treat heart and vascular conditions. I can insert a stent in a clogged artery to prop it open and boost blood flow to the heart. I use the same technique with miniature balloons to help those who have cholesterol and calcium blockages in their legs, preventing possible amputation.
It may sound clichéd, but I like working with my hands. Before medical school, my best friend and I crafted little handbags for brides-to-be. Interventional cardiology is much like sewing, except its micromovements are all done inside the body. Instead of repairing a bag or a garment, I am now mending the heart.
I also provide general cardiology services, including preventive care and counseling. My goal is to empower people to take control of their own health. I encourage patients to walk me through a day in their life, and we talk about the small changes in diet and lifestyle that can make a dramatic difference in the long run. I earn my patients’ trust by keeping it real, and that helps me provide the best care possible.
