About Me
As a general and child abuse pediatrician at ºÙºÙÊÓƵ, I am passionate about providing the highest-quality care to children and am committed to staying up-to-date with the latest research and clinical guidelines to provide compassionate, evidence-based, and family-centered but child-focused care that takes into account their social determinants of health, resources, and the effects of trauma and child maltreatment. This includes identifying disproportionalities in how our patients are treated and working to make what we do more inclusive, fair, and just.
I specialize in child abuse medical evaluations, a field which I helped develop. My educational journey began with training in pediatrics at ºÙºÙÊÓƵ and Bellevue, followed by additional training in epidemiology and clinical biostatistics. I have since expanded my skills and knowledge through various roles in private practice, children’s hospitals, universities, and child advocacy centers. With more than two decades of experience, I am committed to advancing the field and providing the highest quality care for my patients.
I have been actively involved in clinical care, research, and medical education, mentoring trainees at ºÙºÙÊÓƵ and Bellevue. I strive to create a community where students feel valued, respected, and empowered to share their thoughts and ideas and are encouraged to ask questions, explore new concepts, and make connections to their own lives while understanding how child abuse and neglect affects their patients. My work with the NYC ACS Medical Consultation Program allows me to teach other professionals and to review cases, providing expert guidance.
I have held leadership positions with the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children, Michigan’s Child Death Review Program, Prevent Child Abuse New York, and other organizations, contributing to the development and implementation of best practices in the field. To these ends, I have also published peer-reviewed articles, books, and book chapters and serve as the editor in chief of the journal Child Maltreatment.
My research focuses on medical practice for child maltreatment evaluations, fatalities, reporting, and prevention, and my passion for promoting successful parenting and preventing child maltreatment drives my ongoing efforts to develop and measure the impact of community and hospital-based programs to improve the lives of children and families.
