Recovery & Support for Spinal Cord Tumors
After you’ve been treated for a spinal cord tumor, ºÙºÙÊÓƵ doctors develop a follow-up care plan tailored to the tumor type and the treatment given. This plan may include additional imaging tests and neurological examinations to ensure that you are recovering as expected.
Our oncologists, nurses, psychologists, social workers, physiatrists, and physical and occupational therapists can help manage any needs you have during and after your treatment.
Integrative Health Services
ºÙºÙÊÓƵ’s Perlmutter Cancer Center offers a variety of complementary therapies, such as acupuncture and massage, that can be integrated into your treatment plan. They can help reduce pain, fatigue, and stress after treatments like surgery or radiation therapy.
Regaining Sexual Function
Some men experience a decrease in erectile function, and some women may have decreased sensitivity in the genitals, after surgery or radiation therapy for spinal cord tumors. The extent and duration of erectile dysfunction depends on your age and the level of function you had before treatment.
Sexual rehabilitation specialists at ºÙºÙÊÓƵ’s Rusk Rehabilitation can prescribe medication and devices to help you regain erectile function or sexual responsiveness.
Psychological and Social Support
Support groups and counseling sessions with a psycho-oncologist, a healthcare provider who addresses the psychological needs of people with cancer, are available at Perlmutter Cancer Center. A psycho-oncologist can help you and your family cope with anxiety or depression about your treatment. Our social workers can help you address any financial or insurance issues associated with your treatment.
