Pediatric Patient with Doctor

Our programs can support you and your child throughout treatment and recovery.

Post-Treatment Screening

To check for a relapse, your child’s doctor recommends a follow-up screening schedule that’s appropriate for your child. This may include a physical exam, blood tests, CT scans, scoliosis screening after treatment for tumors that affect the spine, ultrasounds, and X-rays. The frequency of visits depends on the type of tumor and its treatment.

Rehabilitation

A child who has chemotherapy or surgery for a germ cell tumor may experience fatigue and weakness. After an evaluation by a physician at ºÙºÙÊÓƵ’s Rusk Rehabilitation, your child may receive physical and occupational therapy, including strength training, to help increase his or her energy level.

Wellness Services

Wellness programs for children, their siblings, and their parents are offered daily at the Stephen D. Hassenfeld Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders. These include art therapy, horticulture therapy, massage, music therapy, pet therapy, psychological services, sibling support groups, yoga, and more. Our medical librarians, social workers, and therapists provide your family with support and information during treatment and recovery.
