NYU Winthrop Hospital’s Trauma Center has been verified as an adult Level 1 Trauma Center by the Verification Review Committee, an ad hoc committee of the Committee on Trauma of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). This achievement recognizes NYU Winthrop Hospital’s Trauma Center’s dedication to providing optimal care for injured patients.
“As Nassau County’s only trauma center with full adult and pediatric capabilities, NYU Winthrop is proud to receive verification as an adult Level 1 Trauma Center from the American College of Surgeons,” said John F. Collins, president and CEO of NYU Winthrop Hospital. “This achievement signifies our ongoing commitment to providing the highest level of care to those who sustain serious injuries.”

NYU Winthrop’s Trauma Center includes a brand new, state-of-the-art, five-bed trauma receiving unit, with capabilities for managing all types of trauma including that requiring emergent lifesaving surgical intervention. The center boasts 24-hour in-house coverage by trauma-trained surgeons, and prompt availability of care in specialties such as orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, anesthesiology, emergency medicine, radiology, internal medicine, and critical care.
