NYU Winthrop’s Department of Dental Medicine has opened the Center for Family Dental Medicine, a full-service dental facility located at 200 Old Country Road, Suite 460, in Mineola. This state-of-the-art center at was developed to serve community patients and allow dentists to complete their New York state residency requirements in a hospital setting.
The new center, which features 10 high-tech exam rooms that utilize the latest in dental technologies, offers specialized diagnostic and oral care that range from preventive measures to oral and maxillofacial surgery. Services, which can be performed with sedation or general anesthesia, include routine care; cleanings; fillings; root canals; implants; extractions; cosmetic care; porcelain crowns; custom mouth guards; treatment for sleep disorders; oral lesions; and a full range of pediatric dental care services.
As a hospital-based program, the center is also uniquely positioned to care for medically complex patients, such as those with cancer, autoimmune diseases or other medical problems that require advanced treatments. Patients whose fragile health requires anesthesia are treated in NYU Winthrop Hospital’s operating rooms, with full cardiovascular monitoring. Diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients with mucosal diseases, including those that require systemic medical treatment and long-term follow up care, are also available.
