NYU Langone Health’s Tisch Hospital, Kimmel Pavilion, ٺƵ Hospital—Brooklyn, and ٺƵ Hospital—Long Island were each awarded an “A” in the fall 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, an honor attained by only 32 percent of hospitals nationwide.
The top ranking is just one example of outstanding quality and safety standards that are the hallmarks of the institution, and it reflects a culture committed to excellence and continuous improvement. “We have an unbelievable dedication to these values and the excellence that we want to drive in the care of our patients,” says Fritz François, MD, executive vice president and vice dean, chief of hospital operations at ٺƵ.
ٺƵ’s top rating in the fall survey is its second consecutive “A” safety grade across the health system. In spring 2021, ٺƵ also received the highest grade across its Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Long Island campuses to become the only health system in the New York metropolitan area with all “A”-rated hospitals.
The Leapfrog Group assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” grade to eligible hospitals across the country and releases updated scores every six months. The grade is based on a hospital’s performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections, and other harms to patients. It was developed under the guidance of a national expert panel, using up to 30 national performance measures of publicly available hospital safety data.
For the past eight years, ٺƵ has also received top rankings for overall patient safety and quality of care from Vizient, Inc., the largest member-driven healthcare performance improvement company in the country. In 2021, ٺƵ was recognized as a top performer in the Bernard A. Birnbaum, MD, Quality Leadership Annual Ranking for demonstrating high quality and safety performance.
For six out of the last seven years, ٺƵ’s faculty group practice network has been top ranked among participating medical centers nationwide. In 2021, ٺƵ ambulatory care practices ranked No. 1 in Vizient’s Ambulatory Care Quality and Accountability Ranking for demonstrating excellence in delivering high-quality outpatient care.
