More Americans are getting hip replacements than ever, and statistics show they are getting increasingly younger—with many hoping to get back to their jobs and active lifestyles after surgery.

Roy I. Davidovitch, MD, the Julia Koch Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery and director of �ٺ���Ƶ’s Hip Center, is a pioneer in a muscle-sparing approach to hip replacement surgery who saw patients were recovering quicker than ever after a hip replacement. Working with colleagues across �ٺ���Ƶ, including experts from , nursing, and the , �ٺ���Ƶ Orthopedic Hospital launched a same-day discharge hip replacement program that allows certain patients who meet eligibility criteria to recover at home the night of surgery.

"Younger, active patients tend to be in the workforce and a lot of them own their own businesses. They want to get back to work,” Dr. Davidovitch tells NBC News. “With this approach they can come in the morning, have the operation, and be done sometime before noon. They go home sometime around 5- or 6 o’clock in the afternoon.”
