Our Services

Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery Services

We help children affected by bone, joint, and muscle conditions.

From ballfields to monkey bars, children spend much of their time in motion. Sometimes, these activities can lead to injuries of a bone, muscle, or joint. When that happens, our pediatric orthopedic surgeons at Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at ºÙºÙÊÓƵ provide the care your child needs to heal quickly. We are also experts in caring for children experiencing chronic or congenital conditions that affect the bones and muscles.

We use the newest and most innovative approaches to orthopedic care. Our goal is to make recovery as easy as possible for your child and family. We do this by avoiding surgery when possible, shortening hospital stays, reducing complications, and doing our best to make sure your child has the best outcome possible.

Pediatric orthopedic care is available at ºÙºÙÊÓƵ at Trinity, ºÙºÙÊÓƵ Hospital—Brooklyn, ºÙºÙÊÓƵ Huntington Medical Group, ºÙºÙÊÓƵ Orthopedic Associates—Lake Success, ºÙºÙÊÓƵ Orthopedic Surgery—Rutherford Place, and ºÙºÙÊÓƵ Ambulatory Care Bay Ridge.

Treatment for Pediatric Orthopedic Conditions

Prompt orthopedic care can help children prevent pain and injury later in life, so we emphasize early treatment where possible. The earlier a condition is diagnosed and treated, the better the chances for a good outcome.

Many traumatic injuries, such as bone fractures and ligament tears, require surgical care. If your child has a chronic condition, such as cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, or spina bifida, surgery to lengthen or move tendons can reduce pain and improve quality of life.

We provide surgical care at Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital—34th Street, as well as specialized care for musculoskeletal and neuromuscular disorders at our Center for Children.

Our orthopedic specialists also provide nonsurgical care. When possible, we take a conservative approach to treatment that includes splinting and casting to limit movement. This treatment aids healing for injuries such as fractures, sprains, strains, and joint dislocations.

Both surgical and nonsurgical treatments are followed by rehabilitation therapy. Our physical therapists and occupational therapists, part of ºÙºÙÊÓƵ’s Rusk Rehabilitation, specialize in helping your child regain his or her strength and get back to an active life.
