Our team members collaborate with each other and with you to care for your child’s aerodigestive condition. Our efficient, comprehensive, and individualized approach helps us reduce the need to repeat tests and procedures, and limit the use of anesthesia.

Our doctors at the Pediatric Aerodigestive Center use the most advanced techniques to accurately diagnose and select the best treatment for your child, which may include the following:

• digital endoscopic video, in which a high-definition camera is used to look at internal structures and organs, such as the throat or stomach, to help diagnose gastrointestinal (GI) problems
• esophageal impedance monitoring, a minimally invasive technique in which a special recorder measures the amount of acid in your child’s esophagus, which is then used by a computer to diagnose gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and assess the role of reflux in a particular condition
• the use of modern fiberoptic cameras in laryngoscopy and bronchoscopy to visualize the upper and lower airways and upper GI endoscopy to visualize the esophagus and stomach 
• pediatric imaging tests, including chest CT scans and MRIs
• pulmonary function testing in a state-of-the-art Pediatric Pulmonary Function Laboratory, where we perform painless breathing- and exercise-induced lung function tests in children with respiratory diseases
• swallowing evaluation, in which an experienced team of speech and swallowing specialists performs clinical assessments and studies, such as having a child swallow barium dye to determine the cause of the problem
• sleep disorders testing, including an inpatient or outpatient sleep study known as polysomnography for children with obstructed breathing to determine the best treatment for noisy breathing, snoring, or sleep apnea
• triple endoscopy, a test performed in the operating room under general anesthesia by a pediatric ear, nose, and throat surgeon, a pediatric pulmonologist, and a pediatric gastroenterologist, which allows us to examine your child’s airway, lungs, and stomach for potential aerodigestive conditions

After we perform all necessary diagnostic procedures and testing, our experts work together to create a comprehensive plan of care, which includes sharing diagnostic reports, images, and recommendations with both your family and the referring pediatrician.

If your child needs surgery, we offer a range of options, such as laser surgery, cartilage and mucosal grafting, and minimally invasive endoscopic surgery.
