Recovery & Support for Traumatic Stress in Children

Recovery from traumatic stress is different for each child. Specialists at the Child Study Center, part of Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at ºÙºÙÊÓƵ, are available to provide support for as long as needed to ensure that your child recovers as quickly as possible.

Medication Management

During psychotherapy, your child learns how to manage his or her emotions. This process can take time. For this reason, our specialists may recommend the short-term use of medication.

Should medication be a part your child’s treatment, a child psychiatrist works closely with your family to ensure that they are used safely and meet your child’s specific needs. The psychiatrist monitors your child’s progress and adjusts the treatment as needed.

Medication is often continued for several months or longer after symptoms have resolved, after which point they may be gradually reduced.

Stress, Trauma, and Resilience Treatment Service

The Stress, Trauma, and Resilience Treatment (START) Service at the Child Study Center helps children and families in need of a new start after stressful and traumatic life experiences. Clinicians offer treatment guided by Trauma Systems Therapy to address the needs of traumatized children, and also to help caregivers who are not able to adequately protect the child or help him or her cope with these emotions.

Our experts are available to serve as mental health first-responders for schools and communities in times of trauma or crisis.

Our child and family support services and resilience programs are provided by Sala Institute for Child and Family Centered Care.
