Children with congenital kidney or urinary tract problems may need lifelong help from a variety of specialists, including nephrologists, urologists, nutritionists, and social workers. Our specialists closely monitor children who have any type of congenital kidney or urinary tract problem for signs of complications. These may include urinary tract infections; hypertension; chronic kidney disease; growth problems; or a dangerous buildup of acid in the blood known as acidosis, which can occur in children with reduced kidney function. Our nutritionists can recommend a kidney-friendly diet to prevent the buildup of substances that can cause further harm to the kidneys, such as sodium, potassium, and phosphorous. Our doctors can refer you to a social worker who can help you and your child manage medications, doctor visits, and dietary limitations.
