With all of the recent advances in cancer care and specifically in melanoma, there is no one standard treatment for the disease. Late-stage melanoma can look very different among all patients, and doctors consider the individual when developing a care plan.
Anna C. Pavlick, DO, co-director of the Melanoma Program at Perlmutter Cancer Center, tells SurvivorNet about the evolution of melanoma treatments. 鈥淭here is no cookie cutter recipe. It鈥檚 using the skills you have as oncologists to be able to assess the patient and their disease, to know the best treatment options for that patient at that time,鈥 explains Dr. Pavlick. Among these different treatment options are immunotherapy and combination therapy. How do you decide what to give a patient? Dr. Pavlick says, 鈥淓very patient is different. Every situation is different. We鈥檙e looking at personalizing people鈥檚 care.鈥
