The results of a new study show that the immunotherapy pembrolizumab reduces the risk of tumor recurrence in people with high-risk melanoma when used before and after surgery. Janice Mehnert, MD, associate director of clinical research at �ٺ���Ƶ Health’s Perlmutter Cancer Center, talks with SurvivorNet about the study and what it means for people with high-risk melanoma.

“It’s important that patients and physicians are aware of this study as it represents a new potential standard of care,” says Dr. Mehnert, also a professor in the at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. “For patients with high-risk disease, delivering immunotherapy before surgery must be considered.”
