Noncancerous tumors in the breast are very common in young women, so common that some women don’t even know they have them, but some do since they can often be painful. Fibroadenomas, or benign breast lumps, used to be treated through surgery. Now, through a partnership between and NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, a new trial is investigating a new scar-free technique to remove these tumors.
, associate professor of breast surgery and population health, spoke to Spectrum News NY1 about this new technique. “You can go home the same day and not have a scar, and you don't even have to take Tylenol," says Dr. Joseph. "I think that's wonderful—granted, with surgery, there’s a small incision. But to not have any scar, love that.â€
