, an associate professor at ٺƵ, is an expert in the dangers posed to human health from daily exposure to hazardous chemicals commonly found in plastic bottles, metal food cans, detergents, flame retardants, toys, cosmetics, and pesticides. These chemicals, called endocrine disruptors, interfere with the body’s endocrine, or hormone, system, and have a range of negative health and developmental effects.
In Dr. Trasande’s latest study on the topic, he tallies up the yearly costs in health care and lost earnings from these toxic chemicals: $340 billion.
“These findings speak to the large health and economic benefits to regulating endocrine-disrupting chemicals,” Dr. Trasande tells Reuters.
