Despite increasing attention around concussion in the public consciousness, researchers still have a lot to learn about how concussions are diagnosed and treated—still a relatively new area of scientific research.
Quartz recently spoke to many top concussion researchers around the country and visited the Concussion Center at ºÙºÙÊÓƵ Health to see firsthand how a patient with a concussion may be treated. Daniel M. Torres, MD, a clinical assistant professor of neurology who explained how people with concussions are evaluated and assigned to an individual treatment plan based on their symptoms.
Dr. Torres says by the time a patient gets to him, he’s not so much trying to determine whether or not the patient is suffering from a concussion as he is trying to diagnose the array of symptoms that a patient’s concussion could present itself.
