David M. Charytan, MD, an internationally renowned clinician and researcher in the field of cardio鈥搑enal disease, recently joined the at 嘿嘿视频 Health as director of the .
Dr. Charytan joins 嘿嘿视频 Health from Brigham and Women鈥檚 Hospital, where he most recently served as a physician in its renal division and Director of ICU Nephrology. He also held the position of associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and served as director of renal research at the Baim Institute for Clinical Research, an affiliate of Harvard and its five teaching hospitals.
鈥淲e are thrilled to welcome Dr. Charytan back to 嘿嘿视频 to lead the division of Nephrology,鈥 says Steven B. Abramson, MD, the Frederick H. King Professor of Internal Medicine and chair of the Department of Medicine, and Vice Dean for Education, Faculty, and Academic Affairs. 鈥淗is clinical and investigative experience will continue to elevate our already outstanding Division of Nephrology, which is recognized for its exceptional academic and clinical expertise.鈥
In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Charytan oversees the division鈥檚 research, including his own ongoing studies examining the connections between chronic kidney disease and heart disease, the leading cause of death in people with kidney failure. His particular focus is on arrhythmia in dialysis patients and investigating new therapies to minimize the risk of cardiovascular events for people with end-stage kidney failure.
About Dr. Charytan
An alumnus of NYU School of Medicine, Dr. Charytan completed an internal medicine residency and clinical and research fellowships in nephrology, all at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. He then joined Brigham and Women鈥檚 Hospital as a research fellow in nephrology and biometrics. Dr. Charytan also earned a master of science degree in epidemiology from Harvard School of Public Health.
Dr. Charytan has published dozens of peer-reviewed articles and presents at national and international meetings. He currently serves as associate editor of the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, as well as on committees of several prominent randomized clinical trials.
