Cancer centers around the country are implementing new measures and modifying treatment protocols to reduce the risk of 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) to healthcare workers and people with cancer. At 嘿嘿视频 Health鈥檚 Perlmutter Cancer Center, doctors are introducing telemedicine to limit exposure to the virus and using chemotherapy and radiation to delay surgeries until the pandemic has abated, Abraham Chachoua, MD, associate director of cancer services at Perlmutter Cancer Center, tells OncLive.
鈥淲e鈥檙e not at the point of stopping treatment altogether, and we鈥檙e not going to do that, but there鈥檚 no reason that someone who is on maintenance chemotherapy who would be stable for a year has to come in every three weeks,鈥 says Dr. Chachoua, who is the Jay and Isabel Fine Professor of Oncology in the . 鈥淲e could delay that treatment, so we鈥檝e tried to do that.鈥
