Nathan Levitt, FNP-BC, a family nurse practitioner and a recognized national leader in transgender care, recently joined �ٺ���Ƶ Health in a newly created position specifically focused on enhancing services for �ٺ���Ƶ’s growing patient population seeking gender-affirming care.

A proud member of the transgender and nonbinary (TGNB) community, Levitt will work closely with the �ٺ���Ƶ team of physicians, surgeons, and other healthcare practitioners representing many disciplines involved in providing comprehensive healthcare for transgender individuals.

Prior to joining �ٺ���Ƶ, Levitt served as director of transgender care at Community Health Network, a nonprofit organization providing a variety of health services to more than 80,000 New Yorkers through a network of 13 federally qualified health centers throughout the city. He also previously provided transgender healthcare at Callen-Lorde Community Health Center in Manhattan and completed one of the first nurse practitioner fellowship programs in transgender care in New York State. Levitt is also a consultant to the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

“Having served as a community organizer, health educator, nurse, and primary medical provider for more than 15 years, Nathan will make an outstanding addition to our team,” says Joan Kelly, chief patient experience officer at �ٺ���Ƶ Health. “We are delighted to welcome Nathan. He further elevates the already outstanding level of care we provide to the TGNB community.”

Levitt received his master of science degree in nursing from the SUNY Downstate Family Nurse Practitioner Program, and a bachelor of science degree in nursing from NYU College of Nursing, where he also created curriculum and trainings on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer or questioning (LGBTQ+) health and education. He also received a master of arts degree in gender and cultural studies from Simmons College, and a bachelor’s degree in psychology and women’s studies from Emory University.

Advancing Its Mission to Better Serve TGNB Patients

Levitt’s recruitment is the latest step forward to enhance the TGNB community’s access to care through �ٺ���Ƶ Health. Earlier this year, �ٺ���Ƶ welcomed reconstructive plastic surgeon Rachel Bluebond-Langner, MD, from University of Maryland School of Medicine, a specialist in transgender surgery. Together with urologist Lee C. Zhao, MD, they have established one of the country’s only dual-surgeon, cross-specialty programs that performs robotic “bottom” genital surgery for vaginoplasty and phalloplasty, which many experts agree presents safer and more effective results.

For the past five years, �ٺ���Ƶ Health has been recognized as a leader in LGBTQ+ healthcare equality by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation in the .
