Less Than One Percent of Hospitals in the United States Have Received Magnet® Status Four or More Times

NYU Langone Health received Magnet® recognition for excellence in nursing for the fourth consecutive time from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Magnet® recognition is an honor achieved by only 8 percent of all hospitals in the United States, with fewer than 1 percent receiving this designation 4 or more times. The ANCC’s prestigious Magnet Recognition Program® recognizes healthcare facilities that provide excellence in nursing and is one of the leading benchmarks used to measure the quality of care patients receive.
“Our nurses set the standard in terms of providing quality and compassionate care, and I want to thank our team and everyone at ٺƵ for this monumental achievement,” says Kimberly S. Glassman, PhD, senior vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer at ٺƵ Health.
ٺƵ received five exemplars, or examples of best practices, in areas including the following:
- mortality reduction, noting the setup of ٺƵ’s ALERT and rapid response teams
- interdisciplinary collaboration on ٺƵ’s measles alerts in Epic, demonstrating the strong partnership between clinical and information technology teams to develop an innovative workflow in Epic
- gender-affirming care, highlighting that ٺƵ is a leader in providing culturally competent care to the LGBTQ+ community
- tobacco use screening program, which yields better results than any other hospital system in the country
- nursing research program, citing the number of journal publications and presentations ٺƵ’s nursing teams are involved in

The Magnet® designation is granted every four years to only those organizations that demonstrate sustained superiority in nursing care. Applicants undergo an extensive evaluation and members granted Magnet® status must continue to meet rigorous standards.
To reapply for and receive Magnet® status is confirmation of a hospital’s resolve to deliver the highest level of nursing care. Research shows that Magnet® hospitals are more effective at attracting and keeping quality nurses.
