Lauren E. Borowski, MD, travels to Beijing this week as the head doctor for the U.S. Ski Jumping team. She鈥檚 just as thrilled as any of the athletes under her care in the lead up to Friday鈥檚 Opening Ceremony at the National Stadium.
鈥淚 am very excited,鈥 she tells the New York Daily News. 鈥淚鈥檓 getting antsy, like a kid waiting for Christmas. I jumped at the chance to do this.鈥
Dr. Borowski, chief physician for the U.S. Ski Jumping team, was a freshman dance student at NYU Tisch School of the Arts when she decided to become a doctor instead鈥攚ith the initial goal of treating injuries experienced by her fellow dancers.
She switched to sports medicine before getting her job with the ski jumpers, and she first traveled with the men鈥檚 team to Italy in January 2020. But the Olympics, she said, are something else entirely.
鈥淚鈥檓 so excited just to see all the different countries represented, so many different people,鈥 she says. 鈥淭his is people from all around the world, this is a whole different level. The Olympic Village with all the skiers. I鈥檓 excited.鈥
