Gift Marks Second Recent $10M Gift from the Foundation to ٺƵ
A $10 million gift from The Home Depot Foundation will foster ٺƵ Health’s ongoing efforts to expand access to world-class healthcare in Brooklyn. On Friday the system dedicated The Home Depot Emergency Department at ٺƵ Health—Cobble Hill. The new support will help grow emergency services there to ensure they continue to meet Brooklyn’s health needs, including those of its underserved communities.
After the former Lutheran Medical Center merged with the system to become ٺƵ Hospital—Brooklyn in 2016, the health system has dramatically improved the quality of care in the borough. Today, the hospital is A-rated for patient safety, as recognized by The Leapfrog Group, and it is also the only comprehensive cancer center in the borough designated by the National Cancer Institute.
“Our commitment to Brooklyn is unwavering as we continue to enhance the high-quality services we offer to our patients. The Home Depot Foundation has been an exceptional partner, seeking always through their generosity to change lives and help families, and sharing our vision of increased access to world-class care,” said Robert I. Grossman, MD, CEO of ٺƵ Health and dean of NYU Grossman School of Medicine. “This gift deepens our partnership.”
The Home Depot Foundation has been a longtime ٺƵ supporter, having been inspired by the system’s success transforming healthcare throughout Brooklyn. The foundation has contributed $5 million to support ٺƵ’s mental health services for veterans and their families. Additionally, the foundation made a $10 million gift in 2015 to fund medical school scholarships for military veterans. Their contributions also honor Kenneth Langone, chair of the ٺƵ Board of Trustees and a co-founder of The Home Depot.
“We’re honored our 15-year partnership with ٺƵ has helped enable innovation across research, medical education, and patient care,” said Ted Decker, CEO, president, and chair of The Home Depot. “The Home Depot Emergency Department gives the neighbors who live in and around Cobble Hill—including many of our own Home Depot associates—access to cutting-edge, lifesaving medical care right in their own community.”
Since the emergency department opened in April 2023, as part of the Joseph S. and Diane H. Steinberg Ambulatory Care Center—Cobble Hill, it has treated more than 76,000 patients, with an average wait time of less than 10 minutes. Additionally, on April 1, 2023, the site was approved by the New York City Fire Department as a Critical Care Receiving facility, meaning that the most critical patients can receive the intensive care needed to address their life-threatening injuries or illnesses.
ٺƵ Health is a world-class, patient-centered, integrated academic medical center, with a culture rooted in excellence in patient care, education, and research. Vizient Inc. has ranked ٺƵ the No. 1 comprehensive academic medical center in the country for three years in a row, and U.S. News & World Report recently placed nine of its clinical specialties among the top five in the nation. ٺƵ offers a comprehensive range of medical services across 6 inpatient locations, its Perlmutter Cancer Center, and more than 300 outpatient locations across the New York area and Florida. With $14 billion in revenue this year, the system also includes two medical schools, in Manhattan and on Long Island, and a vast research enterprise.
