Two ºÙºÙÊÓƵ Health gastroenterologists received recognition for their innovative contributions to the field during the American College of Gastroenterology annual meeting. Mark B. Pochapin, MD, and , both accepted Healio Disruptive Innovators Awards at the conference.
Dr. Pochapin, director of the at NYU Grossman School of Medicine, received the Healio Lifetime Disruptor Award, which goes to a gastroenterologist or hepatologist who consistently pushed their field forward through innovative treatments, practice management, patient care, or research. Healio recognizes Dr. Pochapin as a leading voice advocating for changes needed in medicine and gastroenterology to provide more equity among patients and physicians.
Dr. Popov, an assistant professor in the at NYU Grossman School of Medicine, earned the Clinical Innovation Award for improving patient care. Healio notes that bariatric endoscopy may not be where it is today had it not been for Dr. Popov’s pioneering research into the techniques. She also established the first active bariatric endoscopy program in a veterans’ hospital in the United States.
