On Saturday, September 7, 2019, 嘿嘿视频鈥檚 Perlmutter Cancer Center hosted the Cancer Research Institute (CRI) Immunotherapy Patient Summit. Established in 2016, the Immunotherapy Patient Summit Series provides a forum for scientific and healthcare experts to discuss how new breakthroughs in immunotherapy are changing standards of care for all cancers.
Among the presenters were , professor of medicine and director of Perlmutter Cancer Center; Vamsidhar Velcheti, MD, associate professor of medicine and director of the Thoracic Medical Oncology Program; and Sylvia Adams, MD, professor of medicine and director of the Breast Cancer Center.
The Cancer Research Institute is a powerful advocate for immunotherapy and its potential benefits for people who have cancer, Dr. Neel told the audience of patients, caregivers, and advocates.
鈥淎s a basic scientist, I want to emphasize the importance of funding early cancer research because the patients who are alive today are alive because of the laboratory experiments that began on basic principles that at the time weren鈥檛 even thought to be related to cancer at all,鈥 Dr. Neel said. 鈥淭hese basic science investigations led to the advancements in immunotherapy that have brought us to where we are today.鈥
