Black women are 41 percent more likely to die from breast cancer than White women, due in part to higher rates of obesity and other health disparities, making it the leading cause of cancer death for Black women. Barriers to healthcare affect the type of cancer treatment Black women receive, Kathie-Ann Joseph, MD, MPH, a surgical oncologist at �ٺ���Ƶ Health’s Perlmutter Cancer Center, tells CBS Evening News.

“There are structural barriers: whether it’s access to care, not all care is equal,” says Dr. Joseph, also a professor in the Departments of and at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. “Your ZIP code is really going to dictate your ultimate outcomes.”
