President Joseph R. Biden Jr. proclaimed September Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, highlighting the need for increased awareness of prostate cancer symptoms to facilitate early detection and treatment as well as the disparities that accompany the disease.
David R. Wise, MD, PhD, a medical oncologist at 嘿嘿视频 Health鈥檚 Perlmutter Cancer Center, speaks with the Association of Community Cancer Centers鈥 blog, ACCCBuzz, about the progress made in screening for and treating prostate cancer, including androgen receptor鈥揹irected therapies and genetic testing to personalize treatment, and where he thinks there needs to be improvement.
鈥淭he priority should be placed on investment in research,鈥 says Dr. Wise, also assistant professor in the Departments of and at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. 鈥淲ithout more research into the mechanisms of cancer, we are not going to find the game-changing treatments we need. Research is hard and most of it fails, so we need to cast a wide net.鈥
